Hello. I found your blog from Googling "juicing with colostomy." I'm wondering if you can help? About 3 mths ago I had a big abdominal surgery and came out of it with a diagnosis of stage IV colon cancer, a hysterectomy, and a colostomy. I was always healthy before this and no family history. I have recently struggled with 2 bowel obstructions and other acute complications as well, including mucositis from chemo which comes with bouts of diarrhea and constipation. Because of all these issues, I have been so cautious about what I eat (supposed to eat low fiber-low res), but am not eating the best things for health (eating mostly gentle things like BRAT diet). I have a juicer, but am nervous to try anything raw or too fibrous due to all of the colostomy, digestive issues and sensitivity. Thought I'd get your take on this and ask if there are any gentle juicing recipes to start? Thanks so much!

I have a new blog site on word press for future reference which has a lot more information. https://rectalcancermyass.wordpress.com/
But to answer your question; juicing has no fiber. Fresh juice is easily absorbed into your system, that's why I juiced when I went through treatment. It didn't hurt my intestines which were a mess from the radiation. My body healed faster. I still drink a glass of fresh juice daily and a glass of green smoothie. The smoothies do have fiber because the ingredients are blended. The juice is pure juice. I continue to drink cucumber, celery and apple juice. It detoxes your body gently and tastes good. Start with a small glass and go from there. Let me know if you have more questions. You have been through the worst of it and it will get better everyday. Inge
