I met with the Director of something important at UCI this morning. He saw my article in the American Cancer Society Website and interviewed me for the UCI publication. I will update with the link as soon as I get it. Oprah! Dr. Oz! Hello! Call me!

I am visiting with Etta and her mom. They visit patients staying in the UCI Hospital

I made myself a smoothie this morning. I juiced a peeled cucumber, organic celery, and organic carrots with the greens attached (someone told me the greens contain lots of nutrients), and threw them in a blender with frozen mixed berries, banana, kale, splash of orange juice and spring water...yes, it takes a little more time to juice the veggies and then add to blender, but I'm worth it! ...and I do this when I have extra time. When I am pressed for time I still make my smoothie though.

It's chilly and rainy outside...a good day to just relax, watch movies and make my version of a veggie stew. This is not vegan because butter is one of the ingredients in this Trader Joe's veggie mix. I plan to copy the ingredient list and make it homemade with vegan butter. I like to use Nature Balance soy butter.  This particlar meal was easy to prepare. I stir-fried organic potatoes for about 5 minutes in my wok (I LOVE my wok and use it all the time! If you don't have one...get one..they cook your food so much faster and the food tastes better)   When the potatoes look brown add the veggies, lower flame (if you have a gas stove) or just lower heat, cover wok and simmer until veggies are almost soft but still crunchy...turn off stove and leave covered for about 5 more minutes. The idea is to let it continue to cook from the steam.

I also made a smoothie...you know I did! I make one everyday! Today I threw in kale, broccoli stems, mixed berries, banana, a sliver of ginger (it's cold outside and I need some heat for my tummy) and orange juice.

Hope you are having a relaxing Sunday. and eat your fruits & veggies!   xo Inge

I had a "melt-down" today. I feel better now. It happens. My advice...when something "pops up", don't go to Web MD...call a friend. Mine have a way of talking me down off the "ledge". They help me get things back into perspective. Sometimes a swollen ankle is just a swollen ankle.

James took me to his work today. He works for EMI/Capitol Records in Hollywood. I had a great time. Later that day we went with his co-workers to The Rainbow Bar & Grill. What a "scene" that place was! All the male customers looked like they were in a band...tatts, long hair, torn jeans, bandanas, and baseball caps worn sideways. The women who were mostly "bottle" blondes looked like what you would expect a "rocker" would hang out with....young, busty and skinny.  The place is known for it's  pizza, so I plan to write the owner and tell him to add a vegan pizza...I know there are plenty of people in the "industry" who are vegans...heck I'll even let him name it after me! I did find a garden burger on the menu and that was pretty good.

I went with a friend to day to the garment district in Los Angeles so she could shop for fabric. I now understand how frustrating it is for people with disabilities. Most of the stores were packed with so much merchandise and I couldn't get through with my walker. I ended up waiting outside most of the time. What would happen if I were in a wheelchair? Looks like I won't be going back there anytime soon, especially alone.

I met someone the other day who is receiving treatment for cancer. He told me that he still enjoys his evening beers to help him relax. He is getting chemotherapy. I wish I had the information in front of me at the time that shows cancer LOVES sugar and beer is made up of sugar. Alcohol is also acidic and cancer needs an acidic environment to survive. I don't know if he told his doctors about his evening relaxation routine, or if he did, his doctors may not see anything wrong with that as long as it's in moderation. But I disagree completely!

From my research, food plays a HUGE part in our getting and staying well. Even my doctors told me to eat anything I want. Now, I know, I didn't go to medical school, but I did lots of research about this...we cannot just go out and eat anything we want and expect to remain healthy. Yes, the chemo killed the cancer, but it's up to me to maintain a healthy, alkaline environment that will keep any cancer cells from growing back.

I just found out from one of the patients in the infusion center that The American Cancer Society has a program that offers rides for patients to get medical treatment. Volunteers will pick up the patient, take them to their appointment and take them home. Here's the link to find out where they offer that service in your area...

I went to Old Town Orange this morning to check out their flea market. I LOVE flea markets!!! That and yard sales.  :D

 Got Beanie Babies???

Now that's a "hot" seat!
This tree house was behind the flea market in someone's backyard. I sure would have liked seeing the front of it.

Parking was a bit hard to find so I parked four blocks away
and took some photos of the neighborhood.

I watched Wayne Dyer on PBS last night. He has a new lecture and book. I heard he got Leukemia a couple of years ago but this is the first time he spoke openly about his experience... He had a guest speaker, Anita Moorjani, who talked about what she learned from her near death experience. I have listened to Dr. Dyer since the 80s and I always come away with something inspiring. I guess this time I... connected with him more because we both battled and won the fight against cancer. We both had a poor prognosis but we chose to see things differently than what we were being told. I believe my positive mindset was huge in getting a great outcome. You are what you think!

I liked what Anita had to say about her life lesson from her near death experience and that was to live her life authentically...which for me is wearing my warts and all. I will no longer be a people pleaser. Before cancer, she had lived her life in fear...mostly about dumb stuff that never manifested. I used to do the samething but when I got my diagnosis, it was the first time in my life I did not feel fear. I am not the same person I was over a year ago and I am happy about that. Even though being sick was not fun, it also gave me a great gift.

If you want to check out those books... "Wishes Fulfilled" by Dr.Wayne Dyer and "Dying to be Me" by Anita Moorjani.

I made a healthy green smoothie today.  I know it looks red because of the berries, but I figure adding the broccoli stems, carrots and celery make it green. Here's what I put in it... A cup of frozen mixed berries, 3 organic celery stalks, 3 organic carrots, 1/2 cup broccoli stems, 1 small banana, 1 cup orange juice.

I cut up the carrots and celery and juiced them.
I was able to get 5 ounces of juice from the carrots & celery
I added the juice, berries, banana, broccoli stems and orange juice to the blender.
 All set to drink!
The total time it took to make this smoothie was about 15 minutes and that includes clean up. I like to make it after breakfast and drink it throughout the day. Just with this drink alone I got my daily requirement of veggies. I plan to eat organic chips with fresh avocado and homemade picco de gallo for lunch...raisons for a snack and ...well, I haven't decided on dinner yet!  :D

I have been drinking a shot a day of Noni juice for almost a year now. My sister-in-law told me about this drink a few years before I got sick. She gave her dog Noni juice who was diagnosed with cancer that was recommended to her by her vet. Her dog was in such bad shape that the vet recommended euthanasia but Teri said no, so the vet told her to buy Noni juice.  Her dog lived another two years and died of old age, not cancer. When I was diagnosed, Teri asked if we ordered Noni juice yet, so we did.

Not all Noni juice is the same. The one I buy can only be purchased on line. Here is the link..
http://products.tni.com/united_states/english/nonistore/product/1/134/    Other companies sell it but the formula is different and they add other juices and sugars. I recommend this one.

There are claims on the web from people who claim Noni juice is a cure for cancer. I really don't know about that but I think it's a good supplement along with traditional medical treatment. In case you're wondering...no, the makers of Noni juice are not paying me to say this. I'm just passing along information, like my sister-in-law did.
